Welcome to Australia, the land down under! Most people know Australia for its tourism, surfing and snorkelling possibilities, but this vast country actually offers a wide variety of different terrain and hunting opportunities. Scarcely populated in most areas, the outback of Australia is a fantastic breeding ground for some very exciting big game species!

In Australia, we specialize in hunting massive south pacific water buffalo and big wild boars in the remote outback of the Northern Territory. Tracking big buffalo in the isolated wilderness of northern Australia is a great thrill and many hunters have compared it to hunting buffalo in southern Africa. Alongside the impressive water JR Hunting Australia scenerybuffalo, our hunting area also offers great hunting for big wild boar and scrub bulls! JR Hunting can provide you with some of the best hunting Australia has to offer! Our partner is one of Australia’s most renowned outfitters and has been so for many years. All the experience, knowledge and commitment that have been gathered over time have been invested into the unique and privately-owned 360,000 acre hunting property in the Northern Territory. Approximately two and a half hours east of Katherine in the remote and untouched Australian Outback south of the famous Arnheim Land a large number of water buffalo, scrub bull and wild boar roam our private hunting area. Ever since our partner started outfitting in Australia, many great trophies have been harvested here.

Flights from the USA will arrive into Sydney or Brisbane. Flights from Europe will normally arrive in Singapore or Sydney and from there you will fly to Darwin which is the arrival point for our hunts. Depending on your arrival time in Darwin, you might need a hotel JR Hunting Australia lodgeroom for the night, which we will arrange for you. After we pick you up in Darwin, we will travel down to our private hunting lodge that offers very comfortable rooms with en-suite private bathrooms, air conditioning and all the comforts of home. Located right in the hunting area, our lodge has been built specifically to cater for hunters. Hot showers, flush toilets, laundry facilities and a great cusine make our lodge a very welcome sight at the end of a long hunting day. Alternatively, you can choose to experience a true outback camp far out in our hunting area where you fall asleep at night looking up at the amazing southern sky while listening to the sounds of the bush. Charter flights to our lodge can be arranged at additional cost.

All species can be hunted with either rifle or bow. The minimum calibre we recommend for hunting water buffalo and scrub bull is .375 H&H. If you decide to hunt buffalo with a bow you need to be a JR Hunting Australia water buffalovery experienced bow hunter and  must be comfortable pulling at least 60lbs using heavy arrow shafts with two bladed broad heads to get the best possible penetration. For bow hunting shots range between 15-40 yards; for rifle hunting shots can range up to 100 yards. Spot and stalk is our main method of hunting. After breakfast, the guide and hunter will venture out into the hunting area in an open-top 4-wheel drive safari truck looking for game, trying to cover as much ground as possible in this vast hunting area. Usually we check water holes or creek and river beds for any sign of game. Once a potential trophy animal is spotted the stalk continues on foot. On a given day, the hunter can expect to see more than 100 buffalo as well as a good number of scrub bulls and wild pigs.

Our hunting season runs from the beginning of June to the end of August in our dry season. Temperatures will be in the 90s during the day and most likely the sun will be out; very seldom we expect to see rain at this time of the year. These are our winter months and normally the conditions are very dry making the hunting area easy to access. Sometimes we start hunting in May already, but clients booking for this period might run the risk of encountering wet conditions that make parts of the area inaccessable. Cull hunts can be arranged later on in the year as well.

Firearms permits are very important and a critical part of hunting in Australia’s Northern Territory as firearms regulations are strict. Nevertheless, it is an easy process if you fill out the forms correctly; particularly the correct serial number of your firearm, but it needs to be done at least 3 months prior to your hunt. This gives us enough time to handle all the paperwork and return the license to you. If you do not wish to bring your own firearm, we have several different calibers you can use, but you still need to apply for an Australian Firearms License. JR Hunting will assist you with all the necessary paperwork prior to your hunt in Australia.

A tourist visa is required as well and can be easily obtained online within 15 minutes. This so called eVisitors visa needs to be applied for before you travel to Australia! (Visit http://www.immi.gov.au/" www.immi.gov.au, then click on eVisitor).
